In many sugar factories, sugar losses are in the range of 1.6 – 2.2 % on cane resulting in an overall sugar recovery of     78 – 84 %. Therefore, high potential exists for additional profit generation by reducing the sugar losses.

Competitiveness of a sugar factory is the key to sustainability. In order to be competitive, the performance of many sugar factories needs to be improved because modern state of the art plants are much more efficient than conventional plants.
